The last time the U.S. introduced sweeping taxes on imports was in 1930s Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, which raised tariffs on thousands of goods to historically high levels. That didn’t help the U.S. out of the Great Depression as other companies retaliated & international trade was drastically reduced

"Trump and company still appear to believe that tariffs exist to punish foreign exporters....Tariffs punish the importers, and when the American government applies tariffs to foreign goods the people who ultimately bear that burden of that increased cost are American consumers."
.."Genius” Elon Musk thinks tariffs are going to increase the price of Fentanyl and thereby discourage its use. Unfortunately, tariffs won’t touch the cost of illegally smuggled Fentanyl because — and I know this is going to come as a shock to Elon — smugglers don’t pay tariffs."
"Trump's blanket 25% tariffs on Mexican imports "will mean huge/devastating price increases to U.S. consumers. It will mean new sources will not be sufficiently robust to handle the huge influx of orders. This will cause shortages, reduction in quality and, yes, increased prices."
So, Tesla's use no imported parts? Doubt it. And when other nations retaliate against the dumba$$ blanket tariffs, parts will dry up.
Also, why is Musk now floating the point that he wants to build a Tesla plant in Mexico ?
"Love CA Governor Gavin Newsom's statement about how if Trump scraps the EV tax rebate scheme, CA will have their own rebate, which will EXCLUDE TESLA, as Tesla needs competition."
The Great Depression.
One can learn from history.
Or not.
