The red-capped outrage industrial complex of today would have 100% been against everything and anything MLK said in the 60’s. They would have accused him of being a divisive, race-baiting rabble rouser. Don’t let a single GOP supporter tell you they think otherwise today. Not one.
True. He wanted equality for black people. Hearing Trump say he himself had more people at his rally than MLK’s “ I have a dream” speech made me sick. There was, is, nor ever shall be, any comparison.
It's not the 60's mentality everywhere in the US. I lived through the assassination of JFK RFK MLK and mourn their untimely deaths to this day. May they all rest in peace.

1968 was such a weird year. Terrible in many ways, but it was also the year my folks took us cross country for nearly a month. From Massachusetts to Chicago, Arizona, LA/Disney, SF, Reno, Vancouver, Montreal all by train & bus.
I absolutely love MLK and still listen to his speeches occasionally. He was an articulate and powerful speaker and human being. Tomorrow, I will celebrate his life and legacy.
The great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - no one has come close to filling the hole left by his loss - brilliant, courageous and RIGHT.
If Dr. King had been a LESS powerful man he would be alive today. I'm sure he was also a flawed man, but his dream, his legacy is alive, stymied but strong.
I read letters from Birmingham jail, on July 4 when Trump was in office the first time. And so glad I did, it gave a much deeper understanding of the tragic negative impact of racism and how religion was used to help people feel moral about it.
And racism is still one of the worst things about our country. I used to think we humans would keep progressing. Looking at all the hate, tyranny, and violence I don't think we've moved forward at all since the beginning of time.
In terms of racism and women’s rights you are regressing. I think Black Lives Matter, the #metoo movement, fights for equality and the man vs bear debate were seen as huge threats to the rights of all the weak insecure racist white men and triggered them to start taking things away.
Our tribal instincts helped us survive when we were a bunch of small hunter-gatherer tribes. But once we started building cities, those instincts have only gotten in the way. And the bigger the population, the worse it gets. Either we stop giving in to those base instincts or we go extinct.
I was lucky, when I was a kid my mother very much admired MLK, so I have that perspective and I also remember how much she cried when he was assassinated, it was a very sad & somber time in our household.
He was assassinated in Memphis while visiting to support striking sanitation workers. He was a strong advocate for a pillar of racial equity, economic justice.
Just yesterday down by the mailboxes in my apartment complex an older lady said some racist BS because her mail wasn't going to be delivered on MLK day.
I didn't comment, just looked and walked away. No need to even acknowledge trash like that.
When I was younger I would undoubtedly confronted her. But now I'm a 70 year old white guy that's learned that sometimes it's better to just walk away. I feel total disgust for people like that but I'm definitely not going to let them ruin my day.
Fair enough. I’m young and feisty still so it’s safer for me to take the risk. What always disgusts me is no one else speaks up they just sit visibly appalled but mute.
I'm loaded with battle scars from my younger days and would prefer to walk away. But sometimes you hear or see something so atrocious and disgusting that you just can't sit it out. But ignoring that woman was the logical thing to do... You'd have to know her to understand... She's a little 🥴
I was 18 when, by sheer blessed chance, I met MLK briefly during the Carl Stokes election in Cleveland. His aura was magical & his kindness was something that has stayed with me all these years. I sincerely hope his children know most of us felt nothing but love & respect for him.

We need to think about this.
I didn't understand, I still don't, how people can be so stupid as to be racist. It makes no sense, yet it's painfully common.
Bravery is understanding that and doing it anyway

For me he was and remains a hero
Talk about being on the right side of history!
