Re Adam’s drug, an MAOI, it does basically the same thing as SSRIs. It inhibits an enzyme that breaks down serotonin, whereas SSRIs inhibit reabsorption (reuptake) when it’s been release. End result, more serotonin signaling. MaOIs just also break down stuff in the gut, notably tyramine.
