Yeah, that's true. But there are so many languages I'd like to do tho! Like for example, as a half-German X citizen it's a shame I can't really speak or write German.
I tried to learn a little bit a couple of years but I could not pronounce the tonal differences at all. I tried to say a couple of very basic sentences to a Chinese person ones who then did not understand me at all, which just made me give up. Ironically learning to read felt easier to me.
It sounds like learning Chinese would benefit from an actual teacher (as opposed to independent study) much more than other languages then. Then again, at least for me, reading often already is the easiest part of a new language.
