i checked pirate bay for my own non-DRM'd game that doesn't need to be installed; one version is an .iso with a crack and another has a setup.exe. i wonder if they are even the game or just 4 gigs of malware

the setup.exe probably gives u some obscure game platform where every game is an 1 hr demo and there is nowhere to pay for the full versions bc the company went kapoot 8 yrs ago
So the "crack" is usually just an off-the-shelf Steam emulator for cases where the game might be deeply integrated with Steamworks. The "cracker" in question is pretty standard when it comes to steam.
The exe on the other hand, I don't recognize at all, that might be a virus. TBP is the dump tho.
If an older game you might want to search abandonware and the name of the title. I've had excellent luck that route for no malware/infections. Newer title, not going to help, sorry.
You said non-DRM game. So, basically the same as GoG where one could buy it, DL it, and then share it with others? Would be illegal obviously but am I correct? If so, then agreed, I'd lean towards it containing an infection of some type.
