Currently reading the Kitchen Front by Jennifer Ryan and today I learned the reason Brits refer to sausages as bangers.
During WWI & WWII, grains and cereals were added to sausages to stretch meat supplies. The grains expanded quickly with cooking and sausages exploded their casings, hence Bangers.
