Because lupus is a disease that can present a wide variety of symptoms, so if a patient has a confusing set of symptoms a doctor can just say "it's lupus" because it probably will fit.
Except House loves puzzles, and going for lupus is like as a cop-out to him. He HAS to solve the "real" puzzle.
It's been a LONG time since I watched House, but I remember being certain the whole "It's not lupus" thing was b/c there's no "cure" for lupus so the if he accepts it's lupus has given up on the "mystery"
It’s happened like 6 times on the show thus far where they go “it could be lupus” and it’s not lupus. im only about halfway thru season 2. with 6 more seasons surely they’ll be able to get one case
its a common causes for a bunch of imunnology related things iirc, like how a vet will use tick diseases as a safe bet because its vague enough to match many a simptom
It's a joke in the show, but in real life, the diagnostic criteria for Lupus is "Eliminate literally every other possibility." Lupis is actually medically defined as "An autoimmune response that isn't caused by any of the diseases we actually understand."
