I get annoyed when people take hardcore stances without understanding the context or the nuances in the stances of others.

I love arguing. I do it at all the time, if I think it's worthwhile. But a good argument starts by holding back the emotional reaction, and focusing on understanding each other

Understanding that you can acknowledge good points that people make while still disagreeing with them.

Repeat after me:

If I can't argue *from* their position, then I don't understand their position well enough to argue *against* their position.
