When the rest of your crew is 1: guy who caused Cadet death in flight accident (joking) or B: Harry Kim; you might as well raise your Son (7o9) the right way 👪
My dad is literally a mix of Picard and Spock. Leaning towards the looks & wit of Picard, & the outward emotional depth of Spock.
My sister said that to me once & I was flabbergasted how accurate it was. My dad is 88 and is doing more now than when he was my age. I can't watch ST & not see my dad.,
In chronological order
Archer: Would be an amazing dad
Pike: Would be an amazing dad
Kirk: Total Uncle Energy
Picard: no clue what to do until the kid hit age 20.
Sisko: Best dad
Janeway: Aunt that's Miss Frizzle without any of the fun
Burnham: def needed to grow up, but once she did, great mom
Picard is a great dad in the "you're proud he's your dad & look up to him from afar (bc he's away on a starship your whole childhood but it's fine bc it's Important Work)" sense.
More seriously tho I think that's unfair. Picard is awkward w/ kids because he doesn't have any. If he did he'd step up.
Like, you know that episode where an alien woman turned into your perfect soulmate and she involuntarily matched to Picard & proceeded to marry the other guy out of duty because that's what Picard would do? That's how Picard would be if he had kids. "I'm expected to do diapers? Diapers it shall be".
Except, you know, kids are even more magical than that alien woman - they don't turn into your soulmate from deep intellectual conversation, they have you fall in love with them before they're even recognizeably people just from you changing their diapers for a few months (Gopnik, A. (2016))
Doesn't matter - infants don't need Father figures as much as big kids (12 -65) do. He's the one for me. Hell, he invented the term 'cowboy diplomacy'!
I saw that episode recently - the Capt Picard Day one not the kiddos in elevators one, which is to say that I don't think they're the same episode.
This also means it's a S7 episode (because it's a S7 rewatch I've ended up on lately), so odds are good the kiddos in elevators one is actually earlier.
Yea captain Picard day with the banner is from the Pegasus EP where John locke shows up from The Island and orders riker to break abunch of laws to recover his science experiment of a ship

(I just had to tell someone)
Hard no. If I wanted to be "retired" like that, I'd be a replicant.

(Which I was only exposed to when I acquired sisters-out-law (now in-laws).)

Another episode where Troi is left in charge of the ship and it requires extensive repairs afterwards.
Worf also delivered a baby in that episode, a baby who grew up to live in a tree.
