Not sure if individual Steam games have any OS specific requirements? I'm not a user 🙂

Not all games run on linux, each game's page lists what operating systems it supports

I thought that might be the case

Steam OS is Linux based, middle child has a Steam Deck)

Thought some games available through Steam only ran on Windows and Mac?

Not got a clue - I hate video games and haven't played since I had a Spectrum

But I do have Ubuntu dual boot on a laptop (which another kid has nicked for 'college work') and even I can use it.

Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distro and is dead easy to use.

When my desktop starts struggling I'll give that a try 👍

I think that's true but even then Steam runs Proton (its own build of Wine) which can run some Windows only games. I run Civ 6 with it.

So I suspect Steam would be grand on a Linux Distro*

The new SteamOS (might not be out quite yet), also an alternative called Bazzite, are worth a look.
