Fond memories of building a 'dam' with my dad at the edge of the little inlet where everyone was set up. With enough effort, we could stave off the tide for 2 or 3 minutes!
To be fair, there's lot you can do with Beach holes! You can put your buddies in it, fill it with water to make a mini pool... That's pretty much all I got 😅
I always heard you could dig a hole to China as a kid. Probably just some twisted parents, trying to give the kids something to do while making their next family member.
That's how people die. A little kid died like that a few years ago, google it. The sand fell on top of her and her brother, but he survived. So it's very dangerous and illegal I think.
So, I was yesterday years old when I learnt that the 1955 school swimming pool at Bulimba State School (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) is not heritage listed but the hole is!!!!
And yes, that’s a teacher in a chicken costume about to do his bit in the relay race
In summer 2021 I uploaded a tiktok of my friend and I digging a hole at the beach. It got over a million views in a day. Currently sitting pretty at 2.5M. Sometimes you just gotta dig a hole.
As someone who lives where all the soil is either rocks or clay and you can't sink a shovel more than an inch into the ground, I get this same instinct when I'm at the beach.

brothers dig holes.
Too bad I grew up in a place with hard-pan 4 ft down. :(
Means it's perfect to keep digging deeper.
