I don't think I want *everyone* to come here because they'd probably bring the bad attitude with them, but it'd be nice if the people who already have an account were a bit more active here instead of the Nazi site so we could become a stronger alternative.

I hate it yeah. I joined twitter initially just to follow art stuff recently, but its too political nowadays. It's certainly not perfect here either (I kinda wish politics just didn't exist), but its a lot better

Being away from that place for long periods of time has made me realize just how much garbage I had internalized as "normal". Like how much vitriol I put up with willingly, for hours, every day, thinking that was just the way things were.

It's not, it shouldn't be that way, and it *can* be changed!

Even in spaces that are supposed to be fun like fandom, people are stating their opinions/POVs in accusatory tones, as if scolding fellow fans for daring to think differently, instead of exchanging ideas and maybe simply agreeing to disagree? It's too much unnecessary stress and anger.

And when it comes to current events/politics it's even worse. People are retweeting right-wing propaganda accounts without even noticing it, just because they post things that resonate with people's current struggles to get a reaction out of them. That's what Twitter survives on, making people mad.

I don't think there's anything I can do to encourage people to leave as I'm just a stranger on the Internet, so I can only hope they make that choice by themselves eventually. They don't have to come here, but finding a decent community somewhere else can only be beneficial for everyone.

But for that to happen we have to put in the work too! Good communities don't magically appear out of thin air.

We need to do some introspection, unlearn those unnecessarily aggressive behaviors and set an example in order to cultivate healthier, more respectful communities.

And I hope this doesn't read as "good vibes ONLY 😤" because that's not what I mean! I think being able to express negative opinions is important and healthy, but there are ways to word things respectfully so it doesn't sound like you're insulting or scolding everyone who disagrees with you.

Before we deleted Twitter, we delegated ourselves to only certain parts of it in order to avoid the bad stuff. Nope, there's no escaping the blatant bigotry. It's seriously toxic to your mental health seeing that kind of thing all the time and really changes your world view.

It's genuinely like night and day! I stopped posting there a bit over a month ago and deleted the app from my phone, and that was enough for me to notice a huge difference in my mental state.
