I'm a Gundam Movie Trilogy theatrical mono audio purist, I've been singing its praises for years and years. It's certainly "available" but it stinks that this was the only official way to hear the films as intended over here and now it's set to expire.

I'm glad that I picked up the UC Libraries version on Amazon Japan a few years ago. I don't get why the now OOP US release didn't have the mono track, as I believe the UK release did.

Based on everything Nozomi said over the years, my understanding is what was on the Gundam sets was pretty much just whatever Sunrise gave them, with not much room for discussion. When asked why the dub of ZZ wasn’t included, their response was “Sunrise didn’t provide it when we asked”

They did, however, fight to get the original Gundam SEED dub. Reportedly it being limited to the collector’s edition was the only way they were able to convince Sunrise to let them include it.

The movie trilogy in particular seems to be a touchy subject, considering they’ve blocked the English dub worldwide. The fact that it isn’t on Anime Ltd’s BD makes me think that there was some back and forth with Sunrise instead of them just throwing it on there and hoping nobody noticed.

I remember someone directly asked some Sunrise reps about it at Ota. They paused and just went "Er...um...well...you....you can always import a Japanese copy!"

As I understand it, this is also the case for 0083 and 08th MS Team, only the 5.1 redub is available for the JP audio on those now very OOP Nozomi sets.

I got the UC Library blu for F91 a few years ago. And yeah, it was functionally fine. Good picture quality, sound, subtitles etc. Wasn't massively expensive either iirc.
