We are sad to announce that we have been told by Wizards that they will no longer support us with either funding or invites to Organized Play events.

Without this support - especially the invites - it is impossible for us to continue, and there will be no more VML seasons going forward.

The 'phobes want to shove our community back into the shadows, because the thing they fear most is normalization. Their hatred thrives off ignorance - ignorance that allows a "silent majority" narrative to persist when corporations pull shit like this out of a desire to not alienate said 'phobes.

To those at the highest levels of competitive Magic, it's no great secret how queer this community is. To the average layperson? Apparently, not so much.

We need to make this as clear as we possibly can, both to the aforementioned layperson and to the higher-ups at WOTC and Hasbro.

Many prominent figures in the community have spoken up in defense of the VML, which rules. But in the future, we need to address the issue BEFORE it becomes an issue. We need to be loud, obnoxious, in-your-face. We need to be visible enough that attempting to remove us becomes a Problem.

To my fellow queer creators: now is the time to redouble your efforts. Force the average Magic player to grapple with your existence. It will be exhausting at times, and there will be pushback, but I feel that we MUST not capitulate to this cowardly bullshit. Be shameless. Stake your claim.

And to be perfectly clear, I don't fault any queer person who finds this completely and utterly demoralizing, and would rather not deal with this bullshit altogether. It's perfectly understandable to want take care of yourself, to leave and find a space that's already accepting. I wish you the best.
