I think its a teacher thing. I remember that feeling of having to be right, 100% of the time - and then someone coming in and telling you that you were wrong, because of an external wrinkle - to be soul crushing.

Now, I do work where I am almost always having things edited and changed. No worries

A pupil thing. I HATED being beside a teacher as they marked my work. (It’s called “live marking” now.)

I HATED having an English teacher reading one of stories to the group as an example of good work & saying it was like an Asimov story. I was clearly Andre Norton!

I’ll try an editor, sometime.

I hate it all the time and I always will.

But I've also learned that my work does get better through effective reviewing, so I've come to terms with my indignation - even if half the time I assert that I was right first time 😉

There's also a place for leaning into the process when it comes to editing. Just as you enter playtesting by giving the testers solid parameters to work within and reserve the right to reject their recommendations, you need to enter into an editor partnership in good faith, or you'll just feel pain
