Not just DNS.
Me for example, I have a .github.io domain which is where GitHub pages are published to. I don't have access to the DNS panel of GitHub pages (obviously) but I can still link it to bsky, discord and every other service that allows verification via the .well-known URL

You basically upload a txt file containing a token that the service gives you, add this to your page in a .well-known folder and then the service checks if the URL you want to verify returns that token at "/.well-known"
