Report from the FQ. Parked near the lower Quarter. Pretty quiet as per usual. Jackson Square was populated but not as much as you'd think. Only food for sale was Lucky Dogs. Seems like a missed opportunity to not set up booths FQ Fest style but I guess there's some Clean Zone BS or something - ThreadSky

We went to the Quarter Thursday afternoon, and it was sparse. I was thinking it might pick up for the weekend. I'm thinking the people who came in last week were bigwigs or working events. Hopefully the weekend will bring more regular people who want to hit some bars and restaurants.

Plenty of people walking around after that. Mostly obvious tourists but saw a few Who Dats out there (including Cam Jordan inexplicably but inevitably buzzing down the street on a Segway). Saw a few pitiable Lions fans as well, one of whom I offered condolences to.

He asked where Bourbon was, which I advised against, and steered him to the Chart Room, where we were going. He didn't seem interested in that but I told him I guess you gotta do it when you're in NOLA. At the Chart Room, found an enclave of locals plus a few well-informed tourists.

Choppers buzzing around a bit but I didn't find the security presence too in your face or manifestly dumb (except when we crossed Bourbon St, which was fortified but also crowded).

I've heard reports about some business being slow down there, which I believe, but the restaurants and bars were buzzing mid-afternoon. I think we've got to readjust our expectations for this kind of thing.

Maybe Beyonce or somebody will buy a $10K antique mirror on Royal, but I think a bit portion of the visitors are just well-heeled football people. Saw lots of families like that. I think we just have to think of this kind of thing as a busier-than-usual festival weekend and be satisfied with that.
