💯. On a pet hobby horse, I would like to see universities encourage faculty much more to publish in society journals. Rather than private publishing houses, many of which seem to exist to extort money from us all

I wish I didn't have to totally disagree with you, but we now have a president who doesn't believe in science. Absolutely no funding will be made available, and that scares the crap out of me.

Funding cuts doesnt stop us from working on the problems in our heads.

The rest of the world still funds science, in fact there is an opportunity for smaller nations to take bigger roles while america goes through the Dark Ages again

While NIH funds some research in other countries, we generally have our own grant systems outside america

Also, i dont think the stoppage will last very long.. there are a ton of big american companies which rely on selling us 'consumables' so no doubt they will be shouting for funding to resume

I've only lived in one other country, but no matter what, funding is crucial. Researchers don't get paid much to begin with. Facilities cost money.

All societies will be important but I believe microbiology will play especially important role in coming years. And working together will be very important.
