I was just chatting with some friends about this last night. The only drawback I can see is that logging companies and mills slow production in response to the tariffs. But as a society we can push hard for more builds keeping demand high.

What it would take is real, transformational leadership. Instead I hear Premier Ford on BBC via PBS bragging about how if Ontario had control of the border instead of the feds, "a mouse couldn't get through."
It's because most of their softwood lumber is harvested on private land whereas most of ours is harvested on Crown land and our provinces charge low stumpage fees. The Americans see it as a gvt subsidy. BC in particular undervalued stumpage.
