The argument against this is that it sounds like conspiracy thinking, plus he doesn’t fit the picture of a Le Carre spy. As for conspiracy-thinking, well, yes, but such things do exist, especially with Russia, and many of Trump’s actions are way too unpopular to see a plausible other explanation.

As for him not seeming like a spy or agent, there’s no required code of conduct or appearance for agents. It’s worked for him—you could say that makes it a truly great cover.

Do I know he’s a Russian agent. No. But again, it’s the simplest explanation for his actions, and saying he is an agent of a foreign power does not in any way mean that he’s not also a bullying narcissist who enjoys inflicting pain and humiliation. Both can be true, and I think are.

So what do we do now? I wish I had an answer. But recognizing the situation for what it is, and then making that as clear as possible, emphatically and every hour of every day, has to be part of the answer. The blow-up with Zelensky in the Oval Office should make this vital job a little easier.
