Disclaimer: my wife and I recently purchased an MDR build in Lower Hutt. We don't own a car by choice. Our 20 unit development has a (to my mind) ugly car park in the middle, instead of something beautiful like a courtyard. We are 7 minutes walk from the nearest train platform. Car brain is real.

Like Auckland, the paper presents data showing a big spike in housing permits especially for apartments and townhouses.

And just like in Auckland, the synthetic control method shows rents falling soon after the reforms with the size of the effect growing with time.
