I don’t think that that one mistake was the reason. I think it was because of his whole display. His lack of engagement and his failure to step up as the most expensive player in Arsenal’s history and his status in the group.

Lesson that this “behaviour” is not acceptable and not the standard, and that Arteta is not going to let this happen just like that.
Rice needs to play top level if Arsenal wants to play top level.
His involvement and mistake that lead to the goal was part of it for sure, but not the only reason.

Thanks Andrew and @gunnerblog.bsky.social, outstanding as always. The sporting director conversation really helped, it’s becoming more and more important that we nail that appointment as the implications for the club are enormous thereafter. We need to get that right. And soon-ish.
