The reason we need a month to recognize that black history is American history because black history has been effaced from mainstream narratives for very long.
Not in Trump's eyes. He said he wanted to turn America white again. I googled the % of white people in 2022, the last year it shows, and only 60% were white. I read an article a while ago that said the % was 52. Hard too get rid of 48% of the population, no matter how hard he tries.
Yes! Celebrate the ancestors that survived their despicable enslavement (and those that didn't) and built this nation. #usahistory It can't be denied, or erased, no matter how hard they try.
And why won't we look at it square in the face? I'm in Nashville, just come from seeing the MLK museum in Memphis. Chatting in a bar to a local, gushing about how world class the museum is. Three hours away, he had never even been.
The two are integrally intertwined. The men in white hoods and red hats would like to forget the history that includes any person who’s skin color is darker than a sheet of paper.
Black History Month reminds me it’s a time again to remind creators, writers, producers, et al:
Somebody get busy producing an award-winning series about black courage and spirit during the Reconstruction & Jim Crow eras. There are some very big true stories in there.
Soon will be just history. They will come for that too. They started with the army already. Enjoy until you can. Welcome to the new America. #TheBigCon era is upon us. He told us. Lots did not believe. I can say I told you. That’s all I have and can do now.
Precisely. Why do our curriculum creators & textbook writers get a pass from including basic history in history courses? I did not read accurate history until I got to university & was blessed with instructors who set me on the track of how ask the ??s to discover what else I have been ignorant of.

Hello, I am Waseem. We are still at war and the situation is very difficult. This is one of the difficulties we face. It's my mother's essential medicine to stay healthy. It is very expensive and not widely available. Please donate to us.
Sad how much we AREN'T taught. Especially yt folks in yt schools, like me. I was 50 yo before I found out about Juneteenth. From a coworker. It's honestly embarrassing sometimes.
reading what we werent taught about what the white man did to the indigenous people of this land radicalized me & altered my brain chemistry. my view of this country & its history shifted. it urged me to dig deeper & educate myself.
This erasure bullshit will backfire. In in a country that has seen tremendous successes in business, science, education, you name it, within the black community you *cannot* remove the natural spotlight that illuminates them. None of us who see it will ever deny it. Happy Black History Month.
Trump is attacking that Black History Month exists and is attempting to remove February's official status as he's also attacking the designation of Pride Month, Pacific Islander Month etc
But a day to celebrate the ground hog, an agriculturally destructive rodent commonly regarded as vermin?
And Canadian History.
And global history.
We are all part of history, let’s just call it that and collectively work toward improving our understanding of it.
If our country is founded on the principle of freedom, then its story is the story of gaining freedom from slavery, rising and surviving, and the triumph of civil rights. And that is a story still being written.
People often say things to me like "why don't we have a white history month?" as though I'm going to agree. And I tell them that my American history book from high school had almost 100 pages about the civil war. 98 of them were about white people that helped free the slaves.
Frederick Douglass' entire contribution to American society was summarized into 1 sentence. The civil rights movement of the 1960s was a half page or about the same as the challenger shuttle disaster got. There wasn't even a mention of George Washington carver, etc.
And this white woman feels cheated by that fact too. From Black Wallstreet to the NASA hidden figures to the female Tuskegee airmen- never taught or even mentioned in school. Omitting black history is/was a disservice to everyone.

The symbol of our Democracy!...
Let that hypocrisy stand for a moment.
I'm ashamed of what this administration is doing under our name.

If people who read REAL history books and not the “whitewashed” ones, they’d see the true story/s.

Everything else is a sidebar.
The more I learn about how much history we weren’t taught as kids the madder I get. MAGA want to use schools to indoctrinate kids.
