There's definitely white supremacist tendencies amongst European Jews that's not present among Arabic Jews, often present by the European Jews towards the Arabic Jews. And white people are less prejudiced against European Jews than Arabic Jews. So obv it's multiple vectors of bigotry not just one - ThreadSky

Even if the concept of a "semetic race" is defunct the word antisemitic is based on the incorrect meaning.

So it does also refer to some non Jewish people, yet then it's weaponized against them when they criticize Israel

It's like saying they hate themselves, the word antisemitic needs updating

The term "antisemitism" was popularized by Wilhelm Marr, and was used specifically to support hatred of Jews by making it sound "scientific". It was never used to refer to hatred of Semitic groups in general. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_Marr

Agree that there are multiple vectors of bigotry, but they sometimes go in different directions. My mother-in-law was born in Poland, my father-in-law was born in Iraq. Both families experienced persecution because they were Jewish, but it was deadlier for the Polish side. 1/

The scope of the immigration wave of Jews from Arab countries was enormous. The Jewish population just before statehood was around 600,000. More than that number suddenly arrived from Arab countries, and Israel's economy was pretty weak at the time. 3/

Side note: the Moroccan Jewish community didn't flee as quickly, and that allowed time for some to go to France or Canada instead of Israel. You have this weird dynamic where Moroccan (or Iraqi, Egyptian, Libyan, etc.) Jews in Canada are generally better off than those who went straight to Israel.5/

Now, US Jews are overwhelmingly Ashkenazi and the largest group came between 1880 and 1914 from specific regions of Eastern Europe. So, when many people think of Jews, they think of that specific group, because that's who they know. 6/
