I believe it. We didn't really put a TV in our home until the pandemic started. Mostly because my wife and I work so much, and most of our entertainment comes from websites.
If the TV wasn't "smart," I'd argue that it wouldn't get turned on much either.
Considering the changes in tech, physical medium, collapse of TV channels and the constant shifts in streaming services.. I think we're somewhat on the road to that 2030... Maybe 40. However, even star trek shows a renewed interest, via holodeck and voyager movie sessions 😂

I don't think the writers ever meant "we won't have monitors displaying video content."
It's truly the MEDIUM of television that's dying. And it is.
