Star Trek is the best TV show because they had an episode in the 90's where Quark asked to be a woman and he got a sex change that day, free of charge, no questions asked

I wonder if the two could be related in Ferengi society? If there's freely available transition, and no transphobia, would that make the sexism a contract thing? Like, they don't see sexism as unfair _because_ gender for them is truly a choice?
this episode is standard course for ferengi episodes. there’s nothing really anti-trans about it, quark simply gets hormones and vaginoplasty for the bit. sidiq wanted to have a section where bashir describes dysphoria even
See, if I had made the episode... I'd have instead had Quark being forced to work with ALL his old exes (Pel, Natima, Grilka), after his mom recruited them to help bring womens' rights to Ferenginar. Getting their input on the subject, instead of just making him get surgery.
well also, trans people are already a topic of discussion for the show because of characters like jadzia. it made sense to try to make an episode about us even if it ended up being obstructed
Well the part, played for laughs mind you, where Quark has to nearly get raped to understand what "being a woman" feels like is the part that hasn't aged well. Also says a lot that they had no further Ferengi centric episodes after it.
yes the ferengi are sexist that’s the context of ferengi episodes
berman and paramount pushed directors like sidiq out of the role. sidiq wanted to have a discussion about dysphoria and what trans people feel but wasn’t allowed to
