Yesss! I remember I had to read “Hero With a Thousand Faces” in college. In that same class, the prof showed us several episodes of “Power of Myth,” including the one where he talked about myth, storytelling, and Star Wars.

I love how Campbell illustrated the way George Lucas connected Western and Eastern elements of myth and story to create something new and excited.

I just rewatched that clip and got shivers of delight up and down my spine.

It’s crazy to me that the hero’s journey is such a pervasive narrative but Campbell is only so famous. I don’t think he’s really supplied often to people outside of academia. At least that’s how it seems. Which is a shame, because his work is the bedrock of modern storytelling IMO.

All solid characters. I do wonder if Campbell was more of a household name, whether he would become polarized by the public like everybody else these days. He had some secular viewpoints on the entanglement of mythology with religion I think would turn a few dogmatic stomachs.
