I liked it, was a bit puzzled why both armies listened to him at the end, but I figure he must have been respected enough by that point & they probably didn't even want to fight
They talked about it early on. I forgot who said it but the Romans still "whispered" about Maximus (aka one of the greatest Roman generals). It would make sense that any Roman soldier would listen/respect his son. Just my opinion though.
Wouldn't they have known after his speech to both armies? He announced who he was and the commanders of each army were at the front. I feel like they'd follow whatever their commanders did
