became the most used spelling, though #Michaela is seen as the original form. It spawned tons of copycat names, like Mckaylee, Makaylin, Dakayla, Jakayla, Shakayla etc. Mikayla itself was helped by #Kayla, which rose in the early 80s inspired by a character on the soap opera Days of Our Lives.

Often when one name is popular, it inspires the popularity of similar names (i.e., #Tracy peaked in 1970, followed by #Stacy in 1971, then #Lacey in 1984). Kayla peaked in 1990, and by then, Mikayla was ready to take the torch, peaking in popularity in 1998. #babynames #names #girlnames #90snames

Oh god, pronouncing Michaela or Micaela the same way as Mikayla is odd for me. To me, they're kind of separate names entirely. Mikayla is Mikayla and Mic(h)aela is more a mee-kah-eh-lah if I make sense?

Wow, I've never heard it pronounced like that! But then, I never really paid attention to the name until my sister named her kid Mikala (mik KAY la) in the 90s and it suddenly became a huge thing!
