Of the many English words with Greek origins, I have a particular liking for common nouns that derive from specific places in the Ancient-Greek-speaking world – like 'parchment' (from the city of Pergamon), 'magnet' (from the city or the region of Magnesia) and 'currant' (from Corinth).
