Running politics like a business is also generally a bad idea. I remember reading somewhere that a community theatre director would be better prepared for political leadership than a Fortune 500 CEO or for that matter a prestigious Broadway director.

The point was×that a CEO or Broadway director can hire the absolut best, reject everyone who isn't the absolute best, and create an elite product. But you can't do that in Government - Government needs to be for everyone. So a community theatre director who must find roles for everyone is better.

Politics is simply the exercise of power. So it always happens, like it or not. This is also why it will never make anyone happy (except very briefly) and is why people must have other serious interests else they will turn very rapidly into voids.

Quite. The exercise of power, how we control it and interpersonal relations. that's all it is.

And, as you say, why you need to do other things and have core principles because being interested in power solely is, well, soul-less
