I advocate for two major pragmatisms when solving a problem; patterns over tools, and the 80/20 rule. Reasoning, if you solve for tools, you'll always be solving for new tools as the shiny new thing comes out and you'll get crushed by this.

If you solve for patterns, then those patterns easily translate and extend to whatever tool chain has you hot and bothered at the time. Further, if your pattern solves for the 80%+ you don't need to maintain nearly as many patterns.
