Assisted Suicide bill that Labour are pushing through is horrifying. Here's a list of safeguards the committee led by Leadbeater has voted down.

Meanwhile Leadbeater suggesting anorexia could be included and that it should be discussed with kids (who aren't elligible).

Any advocates worried yet?

That seems dangerous, particularly on the disabled community side - people having a real stake in what's in this and how it's put together but being misrepresented?

I think not wanting to be alive is fine and we should be allowed to pack it in whenever we want, but that should be our call and not something that somebody else gets to suggest or encourage, you know?

My personal opinion is that life doesn't matter, but I wouldn't shout that from the rooftops because I wouldn't want somebody to go "actually, that man's got a point, why am I here?"

I hadn't thought of that clearly but it was muddled up in my other thoughts and you clarified it. As ever the situation is extremely nuanced but it's been flattened out into PASS IT AT ALL COSTS.

I was talking to a colleague who's a devout Catholic about it a while back and he seemed to be coming at it from a perspective that even somebody choosing to take their own life was outright wrong because it's a sacred gift or whatnot? But I think he will now be saying "what about the safeguards"

That's a belief that lots of religions have. I don't agree with it, but I imagine there's no form of this bill he would tolerate!

It's like when we get powers of attorney with "no blood transfusion even if I'll die" as an instruction. We may not agree but we have to accept it

That's it yeah, and then my argument at the time was basically "shouldn't people be able to take the option even if your guys wouldn't want to take it for your own reasons?" But yeah, it works the other way round too
