I've shared this Masaaki Nakayama short before, but it's such a perfect encapsulation of both why characters in horror stories can't behave rationally for the sake of there being room for a story to develop at all & how brief a real encounter with something truly otherworldly would probably be.

I also find it interesting that PTSD radio shares some ideas with the cosmic horror genre. Both present a universe where entities of god-like power exist, but as opposed to that genre's notion of "Cosmic indifference," Nakayama presents the horror of knowing god is real and that he hates you.

I love his work so much cause all creatures he creates looks exactly like the horrible nightmares that come to mind when you go into a dark room or turn the corner when walking alone in a dark street. Like it’s exactly what fear part of our brains expect to see. Something uncanny.

Can't say for sure I've ever seen a ghost or alien or cryptid but every time I MAYBE did it was an oddity I maneuvered around at the time and only contemplated it's otherworldliness after the fact.

I grew up really close to a famous cryptid hotspot and there was one night I was driving a rural backroad and swerved to avoid hitting a "dog" that, when I got home hours later, I realized checked some weird boxes that maybe implied it was something else.
