Tbh I see it as all upside. Team is young and not that good, talent we otherwise would not be able to get. We gave up barely anything realistically. Tank the rest of the year and we're golden.

i think the idea is that he's not really gonna play down the stretch and so they still get a very good pick, and hit the ground running with a more talented roster next year with a few years of runway for IQ, BI, Scottie and whoever they draft.

it's ultimately a low cost to acquire someone that talented, and so I get why they did it. their direction has always been "be opportunistic." i just have concerns over whether this was the right guy to be opportunistic for.

Risk/reward situation. Sure. But the Raptors come out with the best player (likely including the draft pick). And that puts them in a better position to make subsequent moves should another star become available.

Yeah I don’t love it. I guess if you get some lottery luck this year, Ingram probably vaults you back into contention pretty quickly. And there’s always a chance you get a decent return for RJ if he is traded. Plus maybe Scottie’s playmaking can really unlock BI? A lot of risk though…

yeah it's a ton of risk. if it all works out, there's a path this being one of those really fun better than the sum of its parts teams. having a lot of good players isn't a bad thing, and the cost to acquire wasn't high. but rarely do things work out exactly as you intend.

It is the most divisive trade I can remember - seems like a lot of fans love it, a lot of them hate it. But a good reminder that even in 2-3 years the roster could look very different than it does now.

I’m probably in the same situation with this trade. Can recognise that it’s got a massive upside based on how we go in the draft this year but also recognise that it could blow up horribly in our face.

Per Grange, BI is 23/5/5 with 37% from 3 over last 6 years. Only Steph and KD as good or better. Health is a concern, for sure, but 5.5 out of 10? You’re a hard guy to please!

i mean I'm not really a fan of those arbitrary endpoint counting stat cutoffs haha. the health is a very real concern, and so is the fact that he's a guy who's gonna really have to change how he plays for this to be a good fit. he hits his threes, but he's always been reticent to take em.

Well regardless of Thad-Young-ish stat trickery, he’s clearly a special offensive player. Boost those 5 or so 3s a game to 8 or 9, stay healthy, and it’s a great trade. Ifs, for sure, but all trades are gambles.
