Eh, the term "hunter-gatherer" is a gendered term now in cultural anthropology, with the implication that the hunters are masculine, and gathering being feminine. It would have been nice to use the term Foragers as a means of simplifying and keeping in with the current terminology.

Doesn't work for me, as I had a few granduncles who practiced Foraging and Cultivative shifting in their villages in my father's native Philippines. It's a bit of an insult to me and my forebears.

Looking back at Rousseau, I feel he romanticized the infamous noble savage stereotype of native Americans, as did Hobbes in the state of nature thought experiment.

Definitely. The influence of colonizer travelogue misapprehensions on early modern political philosophy is massive. With R&H its like H took the devastating impact of bio warfare as the regular state of nature, and R took the tightly managed forests as a given. Romanticized in opposite ways.
