It hasn't existed for decades. People are spending 80k on a truck. I think it is unreasonable to expect to get a house for the same price. I built my house 27 years ago. It is small and not fancy outside of the city and cost almost double your low end. - ThreadSky

The housing crisis has been ongoing for at least a decade. It’s the lower range rents, and mortgages that have disappeared. to keep seniors, single folks, alone or raising children, and 2 people working min wage full time properly housed we need options in this range.

You could never afford a house on min wage. That is not new. Yes, the housing shortage is an issue and has been for a long time. It is getting worse. But you can't expect everyone to own a house. That has never been reality.

You can't physically build a place for the prices you think we need. New apartments are costing 250,000 to 500,00$ per unit. You also have to remember salaries have gone up alot in the last 40 years so you can't expect housing costs to stay the same.

Housing not owning a house. I believe everyone deserves to safely housed. At no time in recent history could min wage buy you a house. Even less so in cities.

My husband and I bought our first house 16 years ago with zero down payment. Our second house (moved x-country) was the same cost as the first. We now pay a mortgage that is half the cost of the average rent. There is no way we could afford to buy today - both working full time at a university.

That's not the same as saying we need 80,000 houses. You don't say where or what you do at the university. And I have a daughter with 3 degrees 10 years of university and 3 jobs and can't buy a house because it would be at least double her rent plus taxes, maintenance, repairs etc.
