I feel gameplay is very important as a game's main purpose is to be fun. I do like story, the early PM games and M&L games, sans PJ, I love their stories, and those stories also complimented in the gameplay.

In PJ, the gameplay is competent, but story-wise, I don't care at all. And in an RPG, it's

But when it comes to which I'd prefer, I'd take gameplay because I want the game I'm playing to be fun.

If SS had an incredible story, but the same awful gameplay, I'd still hate it because even if the story is amazing, why would I want to torture myself with a game that I'm not having fun with?

My mindset going into TOK when I saw it wouldn't be what I wanted was "if the game is fun, that's what matters to me most."

Also, this was during the pandemic when I was starved for something to play on Switch after Luigi's Mansion 3.

see I unironically was more bothered by SS's sanitized story than its weird experimental gameplay. It wasn't as good as classic PM gameplay but at least it functioned as intended, its random frustrating quirks didn't bother me any more than fog showing up in TTYD. I understood how the game wanted-

Video games don't NEED a story to be fun and enjoyable, but a good story can really help elevate a game to new heights. Bonus points if the mechanics help tell said story

What I don't get is people looking for something they don't want, and getting mad when it's not what they want
