We announced type aware linting almost a year ago, and since then no entity - company or individual - reached out to us to help: financially or other resources. Sure, Biome is a peanut compared to other giants, but the project has won many awards in less than two years.

Biome has a very good governance imho, which protects it from "vultures". It's very open and strict about how funds are distributed, especially the ones coming from enterprise contracts.

Eventually Vercel reached out to us - the only company until now, and we managed to seal a good contract that benefits Biome very much, because the contract is in line with the 2025 roadmap (this is covered by the governance).

Eventually, users will benefit from this investment - I truly believe that, and if you're one of the 😬, please consider this:
- be a good open source citizen
- don't be entitled, without open source we wouldn't be here (literally too)

Don’t sweat criticism too hard. OSS sustainability is hard enough without listening to everyone’s opinions, it’s even harder if you do try to. Just keep in mind the long history of OSS being difficult when too intertwined with a single corporate interest.

I did have this reaction initially (I read your thread), but I pushed through it, and I trust that you made a good partnership. I love Biome, and I really want it to be funded much better.

Also, other than the CEO tweet I'm not aware of other controversies around Vercel.

We made sure we had a good governance model, before we could take on such contracts. I doubt the projects you mentioned have governance as good as the Biome's.

React Router I feel much more "😬" about because it's authored by two Musk apologists, but I ran out of React frameworks, and Next.js doesn't work for me.
