On ‘Sonic Adventure 2 Battle’s multiplayer character select screen, most character models are warped to appear normal from the perspective of the camera. By moving the camera we can see what Sonic looks like during this screen.

@mainmemory.bsky.social I've seen this 'fun fact' paraded around with no critical thought behind it and it doesn't make any sense. "To appear normal"? Why wouldn't the models appear normal? What's special about the camera in this menu? I WANT ANSWERS DAMMIT
Essentially it's a trick so that at this angle, the characters look correct and at the right scale. All the characters are in different positions and different sizes, so you need some trickery to make it happen.
My best guess is the camera hack itself is causing the models to distort like that. The way SA2B handles model skinning is... complicated, to say the least, and is very prone to inaccuracies due to all the floating-point math involved.
