I just don't think I'm going to finish the last game before the end of the year (Nine Sols—I'm loving it), so this is the list. Overall I had a great time playing video games this year. I've never been so consistent playing games and seeking out new ones that looked fun and I'm excited to keep it up

This was a fun one to end the year! It's a classic for a reason. I was a little surprised how short the testing chamber section was and how long the road to Glados was, but overall it was fun! I had some trouble moving in first person, but that's a me problem, this was still a fun game!

I get big fomo if I don't play games in order, and I knew I wanted to play the rest of the Shantae games (and still do, don't worry) but I wouldn't until I played this one. Damn this was a good game! I’ve never been the biggest puzzle game fan, but my bf gave it to me for my bday and I have to say it was amazing. The way new mechanics were introduced and the puzzles got more complex never made it seem hard, even though the last few puzzles were mind-bending (cont.)

Anytime I got stuck, I put the game down and when I came back the answer almost instantly came to me. It was a series of non-stop aha moments. This one rounds out my top 3 games this year. The combat was sooooo satisfying and getting into the rhythm of dodging enemies, sending projectiles back at them, and using spells was very satisfying. The bosses and mini bosses were all challenging but each felt fair and very achievable. Not (cont.)

Out of every game I played this year, this one gave me the most frustration. There was an early navigational puzzle that made me feel so smart solving, and then the second boss was maybe my single favorite gaming memory of the year, but the rest of the game crashed OUT. The two maps opened (cont.)

up almost too fast and I could never keep straight which quest was the main quest, and what were side quests. It was almost the anti-Bo, I wanted less content instead of all the DLC. There also weren't really any other great bosses that used the unique movement in the fight in such an (cont.)

I never knew I needed to play as a small sheep-thing saving every species in the universe until I played this game. The platforming took a few seconds to get used to, but once it clicked it CLICKED! I breezed through the game in a few days to 105% and would love to do some non-competitive (cont)

This was a fun, cute little game! I finished it in a weekend and getting all of the different palettes was a fun time. There were quite a few secrets packed into such a small game, and being able to ind them with my cat on my lap for most of it really enhanced the experience. #GiveCatsMechSuits2025!

For my first turn based RPG ever (yes, including Pokemon, yes I'll accept the pitchforks), this was very fun! My biggest problem with turn based combat is sitting around waiting for the enemies to take their turns, mashing some buttons, then waiting again, but the action commands were just (cont.)

Two things worked against me fully enjoying the game. First, I'd been following this game for a couple years and my hype levels were maybe unrealistically high. Second, I don't have a PC to play with, just a Switch, and the post-release collapse of their publishers let non-pc versions high (cont.)

Of all the Metroid games I played this year, this was my least favorite. I love exploring a map where I have multiple different roots between many locations to loop around, find new secrets, and discovering shortcuts. With the hub-and-spoke system, this wasn't super satisfying for me (cont.)

Wonder Boy The Dragon's Trap was a charming little time. I played it mostly in response to Lego Star Wars, to have some side-scrolling fun. And the it was fun the first go around, but...it felt it's ago. As essentially a (gorgeous) reskin of a 1989 game, it definitely felt its age (cont.)

I love a Lego game, I really do. At first. I always end up playing them 10 hours longer than I should to reach some collectable percentage I'm happy with and get annoyed by the end. That's exactly what I did here. I finished the main levels which were pretty fun (cont.)

But by the end of collecting some extra Kyber Bricks, I was very over the game as a whole. And without the nostalgia of the older Lego games, I was ready to move on. I might come back in a year or so to do some of the level missions, but this year, I wasn't really feeling it 😬...Those levels tho 🫡
