Oh Dear ! Mr Electric Puritan who "never uses Public Chargers" found a Plug-in Hybrid in a Charging Space doing the same thing he is about to do ! Does he not think that this makes the Plug-in Hybrid use less Combustion, in what Mr Electric Puritan says "is an Electric Vehicle anyway" ?

I'm going to admit to having done this, once.

French supermarket - rammed car park, empty (and numerous) charging bays, a new charging app which I couldn't master, a two year old in the back and a ferry to catch.

I plugged in and didn't charge, and when I got back there were still free bays.

I think some people do perceive an entitlement to park in an EV bay even if they aren't plugging in. Better car park management is probably what's required. There is the other issue of parking and plugging the car in without actually charging. It's a can of worms waiting to be opened.

There’s been a spate of thefts from people hacksawing the cables off those EV charging stations, maybe they’re just utilising the space to park their car or think it’s one of those new fangled wireless charging stations where the car absorbs the electricity through some weird airborne osmosis. 😆

There must be a term for the rage we, normally passive and gentle, EV drivers feel when the space is abused. Almost as bad as hogging the charger when you’re at 90%!

TBF, it could be a faulty charger. I pulled into an EV only parking spot outside the science museum in Raleigh where charger didn't work. Thankfully, I was able to use the side for the other bay, which was blocked by an arsehole in an ICE p(r)ick up truck 😄

I disagree.

The EV may eventually be plugged in. (e.g. the driver may have gone to get a cable)

The ICE car has no right nor reason to be parked there at all.

Don’t worry. It’s ‘just’ a learning phase that EV drivers - particularly those from the suburbs having their own driveway chargers - have to go through.

But for us living in downtown flats, depending on the public chargers, it is A.N.N.O.Y.I.N.G

I feel most of the people where I live have an inability to park correctly. This happens by us, as well as those who shouldn't be in a disabled bay, those who park on double yellows, all the while I park as I should.
