My old Konica Minolta dImage 5400 II scanner died just over a year ago. While it produced beautiful hi-res scans it was a slow process & I have 1000s of 35mm negs & slides to digitize. I’m currently playing with an old Canon F bellows/slide&film copy setup with a Zeiss Luminar macro lens.

I think camera scanning is probably the future for some of us photographers as the scanner gets upgraded each time you buy a new digital camera. As an added advantage you do not need to keep software updated, I just got an update on my Silverfast software that i will be trying out soon

I enjoyed reading your article. I very much relate to the whole camera scan/film scan rabbit hole which I have been engaged with for the past 20 years! I’m expecting delivery of a lens adapter today for the bellows.
I will report back on how my latest setup is working out.

I would like to hear how it goes and what camera you are using for your ‘scans’, for the it was either a NIkon D850 or a Leica M11 both would have needed to have lens that could focus close so that would have cost a lot to implement as those are not that cheap.

I left the dslr/Canon EOS 5D ecosystem about 7 years ago for mirrorless and went with Fujifilm, so I’m not working with a full frame sensor. Lining up my X-T3 and 1:1 capable 80mm macro with the Canon bellows I have satisfactory results.

One day you might get the 40mega pixel Fuji sensor thereby upgrading your ‘scanner’ and that will also work fine as well.

I just got a new X-T5 body (40mp) and hope with the new Canon F to Fuji X adapter I will be able to attach it directly to the bellows and have enough extension for the 63mm Zeiss Luminar.
