Temi is an excellent player, and I love watching her play. I'm sure I'll follow her next season when she's a Valkyrie.

A lot of folks seem upset that she wasn't protected. I'm curious. As the Fever could only protect six players, who should have been unprotected if Temi had been protected?

I have slept on it and can't for the life of me figure out who Indiana protected in the 6th spot over Temi. I don't think any of those bottom six past Temi can start for Golden State. Berger and Wallace were probably hoping to get picked up by Golden State. They are very solid 8,9,10 type players.

Im thinking that Indiana management must not have been able to get a good feeling from Temi's agent that they could sign her to contract that would commit her to the fever for the next few yrs.

I was disappointed, but after I thought about it, it makes sense. Temi is 32, injury prone and there is some question about her commitment to the W. I will miss her. keep in mind every team gave up something.

I don't know if she was the sixth protectee but i don't know who else it would be (Wallace?)?
Seems like the wrong call, as far as I'm concerned...though I don't claim to know more than the Fever front office or coaching staff!

I'm speculating the sixth person covered was EW. I don't think they covered Dontas or Wallace. DD can't run the court and can't give you more than ten mins a half.

She also has one of the highest salaries in the league if I'm not mistaken, despite not having much of a place on the court. Makes absolutely no sense if she was protected.

ikr, unless they have agreed to rework EW salary, it would seem the odds suggest they covered DD or Katie Lou. Surely someone will leak such eventually. I suppose they could have assumed no one would pick up EW, DD or Katie Lou because of their salaries and chose to cover low wage Wallace.

yeh, my guess is EW loves Indiana, I believe has a home there, does tons of work in the community and is the biggest cheerleader on the bench. They may have worked out some kind of understanding on a new deal. I don't see any other players on Indiana that GS would covet. maybe they covered DD idk

If wheeler is a UFA, then I don't know that the Valkyries would get anything from selecting her? Maybe an exclusive window to negotiate with her (until FA starts)? I mean I know Kelsey is a UFA but I think there is speculation the Fever might "core" her?
That would obviously not happen with EW.
