The fake video game contest earlier-
Saw people concerned around the idea of “spec work”, which I wasn’t familiar with. Did a little reading and, yeah, i can see problems there.
Contest canceled, might bring it back in some form, but ideally in a way that would be fair to artists.

I had a funny idea for a submission so I do hope it returns in a way I can participate
Mistakes happen, it's the only way we learn.
it's often used by big companies to extract free labor from their fans while cherry picking the best entries instead of actually commissioning artists at industry price
(they usually don't but iirc reason they include this clause is for some legal stuff im not familiar with)
I've fucked up like that too.
TBH I’m not exactly sure how any art based contest is supposed to avoid being labeled as spec work. This is genuinely something I just don’t entirely understand
I do want to see this return in some new form! Maybe throw a "Fake Game Jam" instead of a contest?
Legit. It's hard to see these things nowadays.

also- just because im curious, any thoughts to how to prevent AI art from being entered into the conest if it were to come back again?
Good luck sorting out the best way to bring the idea to life in a way that best supports the artists.
Know you can do it.
Grain of salt: I’ve only been part of a couple jams and am just interpreting my professor
I hope people tell you that enough.
Appreciate when someone is willing to delve deeper into it and come to a decision they feel is better.
