Return to office has nothing to do with economics nor efficiency. This has always been about class war and flexing power on the work force.

If they can keep an eye on you, they can be sure you're not organizing while they can.
If you work from home, they can't keep an eye on you; they can't bleed you of more time and mental energy with those long, stressful commutes.
There's a lot of reasons for it. None of them are good.
