This.
I have little energy to devote to Hunter fucking Biden. But whatever the merits may or may not be, it does seem nakedly corrupt to issue pardons at the end of a term. Doubly true for family.
lol you’re right on the merits, it’s just as always that Democrats taking the brunt of criticisms and accountability for norm violations wears on people. Especially when the mainstream media makes it a point to only hold Democrats in contempt.
I mean the media types/pundits/newspaper & television network owners & presidents who amplify every pointless aspect of Biden's tenure (like the pardoning of his son) and make it seem like he is the worst president in the history of the country--while Trump gets pass after pass.
I mean, I am a mere high school graduate of a public school, but even I know that when the right wing fascists control a majority of our media outlets, when supposed rational centrists/liberals get a chance to opine about things THEY SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CONTINUALLY BOOST FASCISM.
Many of you cannot seem to see the forest for the trees.
1)H. Biden should have NEVER been subjected to the charge on which he was convicted.
2)He was a political victim, and he would be again under Trump 2.0
3)Presidents have the power of pardons. This one was wise. Many of Trump's were corrupt.
My faith was damaged when Hunter was rescued in a Hail Mary while we women die in parking lots with dead fetuses in us and have lost our full protections of citizenship. My faith was damaged when Biden and Garland played hands off and delivered our country to madman proxies of Putin.
I never believed in the idea that Ds and Rs are just wings of the same bird. It tears me in two to have dedicated my life since 2012 to defeating fascism to realize I wasted all that time.
I have a fatal illness: those hours were precious to me.
Wings of the same bird.
Pardons of the disreputable, undeserving or family reinforce for the many that government is corrupt.
But just as Lincoln pardoned soldiers who fled the battlefield, mechanical application of laws and punishments too would undermine trust in government.
Pardons don't matter in an illiberal demoracy, which we're about to be as of Jan 2025, since the system is about to formally shift back to patronage and tribalism. And impeachment only works in a consensus culture, which we don't have.

Maybe it wasn't the Democratic Party that was out of touch with the electorate. Maybe it is the intelligentsia class.

Biden did what he had to do.
