The Bluesky team did say that they've been looking for alternative methods of monetisation, because if they were to decide to add ads, people might just jump to another service.

I'm not, it's not the fee that's the problem, it's the idea that we have to pay for online gatherings. Bluesky being ad free is great. Just like the dead Google Plus was ad free, because Google has other ways to generate ads. Bluesky can find other ways to advertise
I would be okay with ads. This platform must be quite expensive to run. Back when I was on Reddit, I paid $60 a year for the ad-free experience. I would definitely go for something like that.
