I like vinyl a lot. I don't think it sounds *better*, I think it sounds different, and I like that difference. But CDs sound good. I don't think the artwork suffers, I like a small window into another world. I like a booklet. I like that they're *affordable*. - ThreadSky

I always felt records more magic.
To me, "CDs have data on them and a specific computer with a laser can understand that" is no match for "we carved such a precise pit in this, that a needle can extract the instruments and a human voice in wondrous replica". But I'm a skint Northerner so I had CDs.

This is pretty much how I feel. Vinyl is aesthetically lovely, I really enjoy playing records, but I don't get all audiophile about it. And CDs are SO cheap now, having been so overpriced back in the day (and even cheaper second hand, since charity shops are full of them now).

I've not had a CD player for a while, and my music listening has been occasional records but mainly streaming - so easy. But recently I was looking through all the CDs I still have and thinking, hang on - I *love* all this. Getting a CD player for my birthday and unexpectedly excited about it!

I rip all my CDs and usually play them off my phone via Bluetooth, but I've been considering actively getting CDs off the shelf and playing them instead. I'm sure it sounds better.

If I buy new vinyl it's nearly always an actual *new* release: reissues of old albums on vinyl are so expensive, I either buy them second-hand or I get the CD.

The last old album I got on vinyl was Hounds of Love (my favourite album) - a gorgeous, spangly reissue, but about £40! And I can't say I love it more than my original 1985 £3-from-the-charity-shop version.

Yeah, my copy of that album was a fiver off a market stall and sounds lovely. I also actively enjoy hunting in second-hand outlets, which I'm sure most people can't be bothered with, so they'll just spend the extra for a new copy.

Second-hand CDs are usually pretty good, too and the sound quality is maintained. You have to be quite unlucky to end up with an unplayable coaster!

I don't think I've ever bought a second-hand CD that had any issues playing, but I've definitely bought second-hand vinyl and realised I shouldn't have bothered!
