It's #pretendpanel time!
February 8th: Was there anything significant in your life that led you to writing? eg. events, books you read, people - writers, teachers etc
I realise this could get quite involved! I look forward to whatever you say π

It was the first time I knew that I was good at something.
At school we were being force fed Shakespeare. As an act of rebellion I started writing The Flight of the Porcupine. It started as a send-up of Julius Caesar, but mutated into a sci-fi epic about an alien invasion of the Roman Empire.
Iβve been writing ever since.
Saw this photograph in 2021 on the internet (was taken in 1971), & wondered who the hell he was looking at? Started writing a story about it. I'm nearly finished with THAT story, but have 8-10 other #WIP now.
We can blame it on @davidgilmour.com.web.brid.gy
I've always wanted to write a book. I even tried a few times in my teens but I didn't ever finish them. when I got covid I had about a month of brain fog and after a 60hr week of reading I ran out of dragon books on kindle...
A number of people responding this question have had events linked to mortality (birth, illness, accidents, deaths) which have triggered a greater impulse to write.
